Our Privacy Promise (in plain English)
We know privacy policies can feel like a wall of legal jargon, so here’s the simple version of how things work around here:
💬 Comments
When you leave a comment, we collect what you type into the form, plus some basic info like your IP address and browser details. This helps us keep spam out.
If you use Gravatar for your profile picture, we send an anonymized version of your email to Gravatar to check. Their privacy policy explains how they handle that. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture shows up next to it.
📸 Media
If you upload images, please avoid including location data (like GPS info). Otherwise, anyone could download the image and see where it was taken.
🍪 Cookies
If you leave a comment, you can choose to save your name, email, and website in a cookie so you don’t have to retype them next time. That cookie lasts for a year.
Visiting the login page sets a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. It disappears when you close your browser.
Logging in sets cookies for your login info and display preferences. Login cookies last two days, display settings last a year. If you click “Remember Me,” your login sticks for two weeks. Logging out clears those cookies.
Editing or publishing an article adds a cookie that just notes the post ID. It expires after a day.
🌐 Embedded Content
Sometimes our articles include videos, images, or other content from other websites. When that happens, it’s just like visiting those sites directly. They may collect data, use cookies, or track your activity if you’re logged in to their platform.
🤝 Sharing Your Data
We don’t share your data with anyone. Period. The only exception is if you request a password reset — your IP address will be included in that email.
🗂 How Long We Keep Data
Comments (and their metadata) are kept indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-ups automatically.
If you register for an account, we store the personal info you add to your profile. You can see, edit, or delete it anytime (except your username). Admins can also see and edit that info.
📋 Your Rights
If you have an account or have left comments, you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we have about you.
You can also ask us to delete it. The only data we can’t delete is what we’re required to keep for legal, security, or administrative reasons.
🚫 Where Your Data Goes
Your data stays here. We don’t send it anywhere else, except it may be checked by automated spam detection services.
